"Open Skies... and Hearts":
The Saskatchewan Commemorative Mural

The product of many accumulated years of research and over an entire additional year in the design, drawing and painting stages, the Saskatchewan Commemorative Mural is a 7' x 11' oil on canvas painting, completed by Richard Widdifield in 2005 during Saskatchewan's centennial year. An ambitious project, the mural combines in its main central panel over 130 images, objects, poems, portraits, maps and metaphors in just the upper sky vista alone, with another 80 elements combining in the lower landscape. Finally, over 100 additional items of memorabilia are arranged in the border surrounding the entire mural. From special portraits of well known Saskatchewan people, to books or music by Saskatchewan authors and artists, to Saskatchewan related stamps, newspaper mastheads and posters from each of Saskatchewan's 13 cities-often combined with images of some of the provinces most treasured architectural landmarks and excerpts from cultural events from the passed 100 years - Richard's mural truly contains something for everyone!
